From the Principal

Oakland Elementary School is located in the West Ashley area of Charleston, South Carolina. Oakland currently serves about 500 students from our CD program through grade five. Oakland has received recognition for excellence at the state, local, and national levels. Some of the significant accomplishments include being a National Blue Ribbon School Winner and a State Incentive Award Winner. Oakland received the Palmetto Gold Award for the 2003 and 2004 school years and the Palmetto Silver Award for the 2005 and 2006 school years for high achievement on the Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT) and also meet 100% of the indicators for NCLB Average Yearly Progress during the 2004-2006 school years as identified by our Federal Government. Oakland offers a traditional education while enhancing the curriculum with technology, creative arts, and many other programs. Oakland has received a comprehensive school reform grant that has enabled us to provide CompassLearning, web-based computer-assisted instruction software that is available at school as well as at home. "Teaching Tigers to Triumph" is the motto that drives us to furnish an excellent instructional curriculum as well as a safe, friendly, and inviting learning environment.
