Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions:

  • What is the bell schedule?
    • Our doors open at 8:05, and our tardy bell rings at 8:30. Students must be in the doors of the school when the bell rings in order to avoid a tardy. If your child is not in the doors before the bell rings, you must come sign them in the front office. Dismissal begins at 3:05.
  • What time is dismissal on early release and half days?
    • On early release days, dismissal begins at 1:05. On half days, dismissal beings at 11:05.
  • Why am I receiving a call-out saying my child is absent?
    • Around 10:00 each morning, our attendance information is saved and sent to the call-out system, which automatically calls you if your child was marked absent. (It seems that most families receive call-outs after 11:00 AM, but the information is stored much earlier.) Please call immediately if you receive a call-out that your child is absent and they should not be, but be advised that if they were tardy that day, it’s likely their tardy was updated in our database after the call-out information was saved, so you are getting out-of-date information
  • Why do some parents park in the parking lot and walk their children to the building at arrival and/or dismissal time?
    • Be advised that accommodations have been put in place for the safety of some of our students, and their families have special permission to do this. Main office staff are aware of the accommodations and allow this according to previously-established procedures.
  • May I temporarily change my child’s mode of transportation?
    • For safety reasons, we are not able to change a student’s mode of transportation over the phone. Please send a handwritten note (preferred) or digital communication directly to your child’s teacher at least one day prior to the transportation change. Except for true emergencies, we ask that transportation not be changed.
  • May I speak to my child’s teacher?
    • We cannot transfer phone calls directly to teachers during instructional time. Please keep in mind that our teachers are often unable to check email messages outside of the following times: between 7:50 - 8:05 AM, during their planning time (which varies by grade level), and between 3:30 - 3:50 PM.
  • Can I pick up work for my child to do while they are absent?
    • If your child is in need of school work due to an extended period of absence, please contact your child’s teacher directly. We do not have student work in the main office unless you have requested it from your child’s teacher and are notified that it is ready for pick-up. When requesting school work, electronic communication (email or a communication app) is best because we cannot transfer phone calls directly to teachers during instructional time.
