About the Librarian

Ms. Sarah Laskowski

Hi there! I'm your Oakland Elementary Teacher Librarian, Ms. Sarah Laskowski (but you can call me Ms. L!)

I live just down the Greenway from Oakland with my partner, Frank, my son (and Oakland graduate) Rylan, and my anxious cat, Azula.  I have so many hobbies - everything from crafting to video games, working out at the gym, and, of course, reading!

I'm a West Ashley High School alumni, and I've attended many colleges and universities.  I have an associates degree in digital design from Trident Tech, a bachelors in English from Charleston Southern University, and I'm set to graduate with my masters in Library and Information Science in May 2024! Go Gamecocks!

Prior to becoming a librarian, I taught all levels of English at St. John's High School for long enough that I'm now teaching the children of my former students! My favorite things to teach are writing skills, critical thinking and inquiry - I love teaching people how to ask the good questions. I've also mentored new and student teachers, taught study skills, trained educators, and coached both the Quiz Bowl team and the girls softball team.

In addition to teaching and running our amazing library, I also train CCSD staff on Restorative Practices, the science of building and strengthening relationships in communities. Ask me about it anytime!
